What it does, and what it doesn't.

We would rather tell you the edges of this thing up front than let you find them later. Here is the work it is built to handle, and the lines we draw on purpose. If a line matters to your business, you will know before you sign up.

01

What it does

The work the AI receptionist is built to take off your desk.

Answers your phone, around the clock.

It picks up around the clock, in a natural conversation. It greets callers, answers questions about your business, books appointments against your live calendar, takes messages, and routes or transfers calls by rules you set. Every call opens by stating that the call is recorded and transcribed. It will not claim to be a person, and asked whether it is an AI, it says so.

Built for small businesses that lose money to missed calls.

We specialize in small businesses (typically under 10 employees) and service professionals: law firms, accounting and tax practices, real estate, and home-service businesses. We are also expanding to support other small businesses and self-employed individuals.

Handles more than one call at once.

We provision a dedicated cloud number for your AI receptionist, so it can hold more than one conversation at the same time. A busy stretch does not put callers on a busy signal.

Sends you a summary and a transcript after every call.

After each call you get a clear summary and a full transcript by email on every plan, and both stay in your dashboard. On any plan you can also have call summaries posted into Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Telegram, Signal, or Google Chat, as many of them as you want (WhatsApp coming soon).

02

What it doesn't do

The lines we draw on purpose. If any of these matter to you, read them first.

It is not HIPAA compliant, and it is not for health information.

We do not sign Business Associate Agreements or operate under HIPAA today, and the service should not be used to collect, store, or transmit protected health information. Please keep diagnoses, treatment, medical history, and insurance or coverage details out of the call and the intake.

It is not built for healthcare practices.

Dental, medical, and mental-health practices should choose a HIPAA-compliant, BAA-backed provider built for that purpose. Calls that belong in a clinical setting are deflected rather than handled here.

It serves US clients, and it runs on US servers.

The service is offered to US businesses and their US callers, and our servers run in the United States. Two parts sit outside that: files uploaded through a secure link are held in storage we lock to North America, and we do not claim a country for the AI model step, because our providers do not guarantee one. Our Privacy Policy sets both out. We are not set up to onboard businesses outside the US today.

It does not create voiceprints or identify anyone by voice, and it does not keep audio forever.

We never use recordings to create a voiceprint or to identify anyone by their voice. Call audio is kept about 7 days and then deleted (clips that evidence a caller's consent or relate to an active dispute are kept longer). Transcripts stay available for the life of your account and are deleted within 14 days of cancellation.

It does not connect to every piece of software out of the box.

Your calendar connects for live booking during the call. Trade and industry software varies more, so we handle those case by case: tell us what you run at the consultation and we will say plainly what we can connect today and what we cannot yet.

It does not place outbound calls.

First AI Employee is an inbound receptionist: it answers the calls your customers make. It does not cold-call, and by design it never places outbound calls at all. The only outreach it sends is a text back to a caller who asked for one on the call, and that text is consent- and opt-out-gated. It can also transfer a live caller to your on-call human when one is needed.

It does not bill by the exact second, and a transfer does not stop the clock.

Call time is measured from connect to disconnect in 15-second increments, rounded up, so a short call still draws a full increment. When the AI hands a caller to your on-call human, the clock keeps running until our line drops. That time comes out of the minutes your plan already includes, at no separate charge.

It is not legal, financial, or tax advice.

We serve law firms and accounting and tax practices for reception and scheduling only. It answers, books, takes messages, and routes; it does not answer substantive legal, financial, or tax questions, and it must not be set up to. It records and transcribes the whole call; beyond a narrow automatic filter that removes the card, Social Security, and bank account numbers it can recognize, it does not filter or redact what a caller volunteers, so keep privileged facts for a qualified person at your practice.
